Next Sunday day 3 and as every year, the Gastor celebrates its big day, the Day of Corpus Christi. This festival has been declared of National Tourist Interest, it is one of the most beautiful in the Sierra de Cádiz. The origin of this festival in El Gastor, is remote to the year 1747, in which the town was engalonaba to pay tribute to the procession of the Sacred Custody.
Over the next few days, the residents of the neighborhood turn to the people to shine in all its splendor on Corpus Christi Sunday.
Many of them spend months thinking about how to decorate their street, their façade and balconies and how the altar will look like on their corner.
The decoration is based on the use of sedges, nets, bouquets and altars, which turn this white village into a completely green forest, where there is hardly a free space left.
Corpus Christi Sunday begins with the morning Mass at 10:30 am, followed by the procession of the Blessed Sacrament, which runs through each street, stopping at each of the altars, accompanied by gas pipers. The music will continue to be the protagonist of the day with different performances in the Plaza de la Constitución and in the multipurpose room.
In the afternoon, the Gaita Gastoreña Contest is held, an acoustic musical instrument of Iberian origin with the influence of the Arabic chirimia and made with a bull or cow horn.
There will also be exhibitions “Gaditanas in Memory” and “Republican Women” that can be visited at the Meson Museum “El Molino” and in the Museum of Popular Uses and Customs.
A unique festivity in the Sierra de Cádiz, which mixes the popular with the religious and the tradition with the playful.
